About

Vivien Roubaud

Vivien Roubaud seeks to extract unused qualities or hidden properties from the objects that bring us to life. The active mixtures it operates confront each other and take shape in precarious and unstable balances. Bypassing functions, disorganizing know-how are research that requires him to take a distant look. Dust or pollen, printer or freezer parts are used to create hybrid installations that often balance on the thread of a technique. His creations frequently recreate microphenomena or microcosms. Graduate of DNESP, with honours, at the École nationale supérieure d'art de la Villa Arson (Nice) in 2011, he is also the winner of the EMERGIE 2014 Revelations Prize and has exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo and 104 in Paris.

Feux d'artifice

Fireworks and explosive materials are unleashed here in polymerised petroleum gel. The product excludes any humidity, absorbing and freezing the final instant of the explosion, enfolding the entire geometrical figure. This is a moment crystallised in gel, the force of a blast caught as a model of enforced propagation. The artist seeks to describe the striking power of fireworks and explosive materials by encapsulating them in polymerised petroleum gel. The product excludes any humidity, absorbing and freezing the final instant of the explosion, enfolding the entire geometrical figure. This is a moment crystallised in gel, the force of a blast caught as a model of enforced, but encompassed, propagation. Embedded in a wall or resting on the ground, his explosions will immerse the spectator in space, creating new perceptions and unsettling encounters. Using these different scales as a starting point, the artist expands his field of action, and thus the opportunity to present his works in new places and architectural spaces.
